Mission The purpose of Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering (WECE) is to provide academic, professional, and social opportunities for all individuals interested in Electrical and Computer Engineering. We provide education and awareness of the contributions of women in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This organization also seeks to prepare members for Future careers by developing leadership skills and creating opportunities to learn outside of the classroom.
Membership Benefits1. Academic SupportWECE provides a supportive academic environment through organized study hours, peer mentorship, and access to resources tailored to students in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Members are encouraged to seek help and collaborate with one another to succeed in their coursework.2. Professional DevelopmentMembers have the opportunity to attend events that prepare them for future careers, including networking sessions, guest speaker panels, resume workshops, and alumni meetups. These events help members build confidence and gain insights into industry and academic pathways.3. Leadership OpportunitiesAll members are eligible to run for executive board positions, allowing them to develop leadership, teamwork, and project management skills. Officers gain experience in event planning, budgeting, outreach, and club governance.4. Inclusive CommunityWECE fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for WECE members. Members build meaningful connections with peers who share similar experiences and challenges in the field of ECE.5. Social and Community EventsWECE hosts fun and low-stress events that help members unwind and connect, including paint nights, movie nights, crafting, and collaboration events with other student organizations. These events strengthen the sense of community and belonging within the club.6. Exclusive Resources and SpacesMembers have access to the WECE room — a private space for studying, relaxing, or holding small gatherings. They may also use WECE-owned materials and supplies (such as soldering kits or design tools) for club-approved projects and events.7. Voting Rights and Club GovernanceMembers who attend at least 50% of meetings and events in a term are eligible to vote in elections and participate in decision-making processes, such as constitutional amendments and event planning input.8. Alumni Network AccessGraduating members can join the WECE alumni network, staying connected with the organization through LinkedIn, alumni events, and ongoing communications. This provides long-term professional and personal support beyond WPI.9. Advocacy and EmpowermentBy participating in WECE, members contribute to a broader effort to make STEM more equitable. The organization creates opportunities for students to use their voices, challenge inequities, and advocate for meaningful change in the ECE community and beyond.
